For the 2nd year running, the Ile d'Yeu marina team, yachting associations and young volunteer firefighters have joined forces for a clean-up campaign of the marina's riprap!
Around twenty people got together on Sanaturday morning, with the aim of cleaning 100 meters of riprap. Although access to the riprap is physical and sometimes difficult, the stakes remain high.
While the riprap may look clean from the outside, the gaps between the rocks accumulate waste of all kinds.
We'll tell you what's at stake: the accumulated plastics eventually degrade from macro-waste to nano-waste, returning to the food chain. The plasticizers they contain (Phenols) are, moreover, endocrine disruptors that destabilize the environment.
The objective was largely achieved, as last year over 100 Kg of waste were collected in 100 meters of riprap!
Ambition: To tour the harbour's riprap campaign after campaign. Communicate with boaters on the issues at stake and federate even more participants for future campaigns to raise awareness and change practices.
