Thanks to the island’s geographic isolation and natural riches, previous generations have successfully protected their environment, making the island an unspoilt treasure.
The island is a real haven for nature lovers! From the earth grows a great diversity of plant life with 760 different native species documented to present. And in the skies, over 290 species of birds intermingle, helping create a spellbinding scene for walkers to enjoy. And as for the ocean surrounding the Ile d’Yeu, this is classed as a national marine conservation area, meaning that it is protected by sustainable management and wildlife conservation policies.
Some of the ocean’s more common inhabitants include the conger eel, the needlefish and the spider crab, as well as noble species such as the sea bass, sea bream and lobster and some unusual seaweeds.
